The Total Station is a Digital Theodolite that employs an Electronic Distance Meter (EDM) that emits microwave signal to a prism reflector to measure distances. The EDM calculates the distance to the prism by the time it takes for the signal to return. The Total Station also has a built-in calculator and data collector to store measured distances, horizontal and vertical angles, and other notes. The total station is one of the most valuable tools of the surveyor, mining engineer, archaeologist, and accident and crime investigators.
