Rotating Laser Levels rotate to establish a level plane 360 degrees around a room or work site. One type of Rotating Laser Level is only for indoor use, while others can be use both indoors and outdoors. When used indoors, they can be used to level anything in the room on a horizontal plane, or by turning it on its side, can be used to establish a vertical plane. Some Rotary Laser Level models have a feature that makes it possible to set grade by tilting their beam at a specified slope.
Rotating Laser Levels are leveled in one of three ways. A Rotating Laser Level that is leveled manually by means of a centering a bubble in a vial built into the level. These levels have an accuracy of approximately 1/8th inch per 30 feet. A second type of Rotary Laser Level is a Self-Leveling level which is done with a pendulum and magnet built into the level. These levels are typically more accurate than manually leveled models with an accuracy of 1/8th inch per 100 feet. The third type is called an Automatic or Electronic Self-Leveling Rotary Laser Level. These use a series of small servo motors to establish an accuracy of 1/16th inch per 100 feet.
